Boredom Buster #5: DIY Paintings and Watercolor!

It’s been while since the last time I’ve done one of these, but I’m going to bring them back for the summer! Today’s boredom buster is to make a painting or watercolor. There is a way to make something look watercolored, without having the actual watercolor palettes. I am going to show you that today.

Watercolor:

This way of watercolor is not the normal way. For this one, you will need: sharpies, rubbing alcohol, canvas, painting brush, newspaper, and a syringe or pipette.

The first step is to lay the newspaper down on your work surface and put your canvas on top. This prevents the space from getting dirty in case you spill something. Next, you will need to get the sharpie color of your choice and start coloring! Fill your pipette or syringe with rubbing alcohol. Place drops around the canvas and quickly rub it around with the paintbrush. What I usually do is color a corner of the canvas, so that the color cascades downward. Now, I will warn you, even though you will add the rubbing alcohol to the sharpie, the place where you originally colored is still visible. This is a super easy, fun way to make art over the summer. And hopefully, you have some of these things lying around the house.

Painting:

Now this is very straight forward. Most of you will have painted before, so this should be very simple. You will need: a canvas, paint, paintbrush, newspaper, and a cup full of water.

You are going to lay your canvas down onto the newspaper, just like with the watercolor. Dip your brush into some paint and paint away. After you have finished with that color, rinse out the brush in the cup. You can dab of the water on the newspaper. πŸ™‚

Today’s my brothers birthday, so I made him this!

Making a painting/watercolor is an easy way to spend some time over the summer. Hope you have fun!

Snow Day!

Where I live, snow is rare. This is why today is a special, once every few years kind of day. Our county is always the last to call whether we have a day off. So, of course, around 10 pm we finally got the message that school was canceled! Now, you would think that I would sleep in and rest up for the exciting day, but no. My brother comes barging in, waking me up, to tell me school was canceled. Well, I already knew that piece of information, so, this resulted in me waking up at about 6 am. However, it did make a great time for some pretty pictures. I hope you like them. πŸ™‚

Kitty Cat!

The following pictures are of our church’s cat, Mandy. She is super sweet and lovable. ❀ These were taken on my phone, not my camera, but I still found them adorable! Anyway, let’s get onto adoring the star of this post, Mandy!

Pictures of my Pups with my new Canon Rebel!

As a Christmas gift, I got a used Cannon Rebel. This camera is the first real one I’ve owned and I am super excited to show pictures I’ve taken on here! For now, the main pictures I took were of my 2 dogs Andy and CJ. I mean, they’re so cute! How can you not take pictures of them? Andy is a catahoula beagle mix. and CJ is a dauschund. However, we believe he has some beagle in him because he isn’t as long and skinny. πŸ˜‰ Anyway, I am going to stop rambling about my dogs and let you guys get to looking at these pictures! More pictures will come soon! If you have any recommendations or helpful criticism to make these pictures better, I would love to hear it! Enjoy!

A Shepard and the Sheep

This photo was taken on my Aunt and Uncle’s farm as well. I love visiting the sheep!

Isaiah 40:11 – Like a Shepard he will tend his flock, in his arm he will gather the lambs and carry them in his bosom; he will gently lead the nursing ewes.

All Things Back to School

Exactly a week from today, I begin high school. That’s right, I am going into the 9th grade this year and am quite nervous, yet excited! I am going to show you a DIY school supply, and my back to school essentials. πŸ™‚

First, I will begin with the DIY. My parents are strict about using what we have. So, if I have a binder I can use, I am going to use it. I am going to show you a way to make an old binder look cute again. You are going to need duct tape, and a picture of your choice. The picture is going to go inside the front pocket of your binder. I would recommend you find an old coloring book and rip out one of those adorable pictures or you can print a picture online.

To begin, go ahead and put the picture of your choosing in the front pocket. Next, get your duct tape. You can use all one color, or what I did was use a color and a pattern duct tape. I also found a mini roll of duct tape that is thinner to put as a bottom border. Wrap the duct tape down both sides of the front. You can fold the excess duct tape over the top/bottom. You can also put a strip of tape down the outside spine of the binder, and you can do the same thing on the front to the back. For the finishing touch, you can add more tape to the bottom and border it all around the binder. TA-DA! A cute binder is ready for use!

My first back to school essential is a good pack of pencils. I always go through my pencils way to quickly. However, I found that a mechanical pencil lasted much longer than a wood pencil. All of my supplies came from Target. These were about $2.

My second essential is a planner. Personally, planners help me a-lot. It gives me somewhere to write due dates and homework. In middle/high school there is much more homework than elementary. My planners defiantly come into use. This planner was $10.

My third essential is some cute notebooks. I love getting notebooks with style. However they are more expensive so I normally only get two for my two favorite subjects. Both of these notebooks were $5.

This last essential is to keep you organized. It is so difficult when you get all of your subjects papers mixed up. I have a tip for you! Get the cheap 3 prong folders. Use 1 for each subject. Add some paper inside, so you always have paper and you can put that classes homework and excess notes, worksheets, etc. in the folder dedicated to that subject. The cheap ones are useful since, they give you your years worth! All 3 of these folders were a $1.50.

I cannot wait for back to school! Although Summer is great, I get excited to see old pals. I hope you have a great first day whenever you start!
