What does it mean to be “blessed?”

This week, I am going to take a break from the Summer Boredom Busters. If you do want to check out those posts, go to categories and click “Livin’ the Life of LibLou.” Instead, I am going to talk about something that I think is pretty serious. What does it mean to be “blessed?”

A-lot of people on social media use the #blessed, or they say something along the lines of “I am blessed because….” What they may not realize is that when they use the word blessed, it is normally in context of having good fortunes. As if God favors someone simply by giving them a great life. However, I do not believe that this is what being blessed means.

Let us consider this quote from Matthew 5:3-12.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the Earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Rejoice and be glad for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Jesus says blessed are the people who are poor, mourn, meek, and hunger and thirst for righteousness because God will come to them in their need .

But I believe everybody is blessed. We are all made in God’s image, whether we believe it or not. Being made in the image of God, who is perfect, should be enough of a blessing.

Knowing that our God will love every single one of us, no matter what; God’s unconditional love is a great blessing.

The fact that we are even alive is a blessing.

If you have all the good things in life or not, this does not define whether you are blessed. These simple things: being made in the image of God, being alive, and knowing God’s unconditional love are what make us all blessed.

You, my friend, are blessed.

With great love,

LibLou ❤ ❤
